Urgent: stop cats from being killed

Inside dark trucks moving across China, cats are forced into wooden and bamboo crates so small they cannot turn around or stretch.
Many are stacked on top of each other for hours or days.
Their legs are crushed under the weight of other trapped cats.
Their mouths are open, letting out sharp, piercing sounds, while urine and feces drip through the stacked crates onto the animals below.
Some of these cats are taken from the streets.
Others are taken from yards, alleys, or near people's homes after being lured or trapped.
This is how the illegal cat meat trade begins.
Once caught, they are treated like cargo.
They are denied water, food, and any relief from pain or distress.
Many arrive injured before the killing even begins.
Investigations in China have uncovered trucks carrying hundreds, and sometimes thousands of cats at once.
The cats are moved long distances to be slaughtered and sold as meat, sometimes passed off as pork or mutton.
Rescuers have documented cats with broken limbs, deep wounds, and severe infections caused by overcrowding, filth, and extreme stress.
Many die slowly from their injuries or illnesses after rescue.
Selling cat meat is illegal in China, yet this trade continues.
Cats are not clearly protected under national animal cruelty laws, and enforcement is weak.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) in China oversees over livestock management, food safety enforcement, and illegal meat markets.
Without pressure, loopholes allow cats to be captured, transported, and killed with little to no consequences.
When trucks are intercepted, it is often because ordinary citizens tracked them and alerted police.
Without consistent enforcement, millions of cats remain vulnerable to capture, confinement, and violent death.
These animals feel fear, pain, and distress just as any companion animal.
Please call on MARA to take action to shut down the illegal cat meat trade, enforce existing bans, and protect cats from being treated as disposable goods.
Silence allows this suffering to continue.
Thank you for taking action on behalf of animals!
