Urgent: Could You Stand and Watch a Horse Die?

Lady, moments after collapsing, with traffic still moving around her.
Lady, moments after collapsing, with traffic still moving around her.

A few months ago, a horse named Lady fell while pulling a carriage through Midtown Manhattan.

Witnesses saw her body shake as she struggled to stand.

Traffic moved around her while people tried to help, but she died right there on the street.

Workers dragged her body into a trailer and took her away.

Lady’s death was not an isolated incident.

Ryder endured extreme stress and physical strain from work.
Ryder endured extreme stress and physical strain from work.

A few years earlier, a horse named Ryder collapsed on a Manhattan street.

He struggled on the pavement, and even after people tried to help, he died months later.

Time after time, these horses end up in frightening, dangerous situations because they are forced into busy streets filled with loud buses, close traffic, and sudden surprises that their bodies and minds were never built to handle.

City leaders, including New York’s mayor, have already said this cruelty cannot continue.

Horses were never meant to pull carriages.

Horses deserve space, freedom, and safety every day.
Horses deserve space, freedom, and safety every day.

They are living beings who deserve freedom, safety, and dignity, not forced labor in crowded, noisy streets.

But until lawmakers act, every horse pulling a carriage is at risk of the same fate as Lady and Ryder.

Ryder’s Law is the bill that would remove horses from traffic, retire them safely, and replace the carriages with electric vehicles.

But it cannot move forward unless Speaker Adrienne Adams and Health Committee Chair Lynn Schulman bring it to a vote.

Every day this bill sits untouched, another horse is put in danger.

Horses face danger whenever they are forced into traffic.
Horses face danger whenever they are forced into traffic.

These animals cannot ask for a safer life on their own.

They depend on people like you who refuse to look away.

Every signature shows lawmakers that people are watching and that these deaths cannot be ignored.

These horses have already suffered enough, and the longer we wait, the more lives are put in danger.

Please speak up for New York horses before it is too late.
