One of Crystal’s pups died before love arrived...

Every sound made me tense. I had to stay alert or risk losing the ones I loved most.
Every sound made me tense. I had to stay alert or risk losing the ones I loved most.

I am Crystal, and this Valentine’s Day, I finally know what love feels like.

Not long ago, I was living in an abandoned area with my two pups.

One of my puppies had already died, and I had nothing to feed the others.

Every night was cold, and every sound made my heart race.

I had to stay alert, protecting my little ones from danger and hunger.

When someone approached to help, I growled.

I was angry at a world that had left us with nothing.

I had spent every day and night fighting to keep my family alive.

Team 600MillionDogs looked at us like a family worth saving.

Then Team 600MillionDogs arrived, and everything changed.

They offered water and food and waited.

Slowly, I realized they meant care and not harm.

I leaned into their love, and in that moment, I understood that love can save lives.

Team 600MillionDogs moved us to a safe shelter, where a veterinarian examined us.

The relief we felt was overwhelming.

My pups could finally play without fear, and for the first time, I could rest without tension gripping my body.

For the first time, we lived without fear. My pups are not in this photo because they were still exploring our new home.

But not all dogs and cats are as lucky as we were.

Every year, millions of puppies and kittens are born into the same danger we barely escaped.

The world's 600 million stray dogs and 87 million stray cats give birth to over 1 billion homeless puppies and kittens every year.

Tragically, those who survive, also reproduce and give birth to another generation of homeless strays - thus repeating the cycle of suffering, every year.

This Valentine’s you can give a gift that no flowers or box of chocolates can match — the gift of life for stray dogs and cats.

Those that survive are forced to bring more lives into the same cruel cycle.

Your support helps us at 600MillionDogs to rescue families like mine and advance our mission:

To end the #1 cause of suffering and death for dogs and cats —

overpopulation — by developing a permanent-lasting birth control cookie that will only need to be eaten one time, and it will in effect spay or neuter — without surgery.

Your support can be their lifeline.

Please give the gift of life this Valentine’s Day and be the reason more families like mine survive.

Thank you so much for caring about animals!

With love,

Crystal
