Today is World Animal Day — a day to honor the dogs, cats, and countless other animals who share our world, and to remember those who suffer unseen.
Like the more than 100 dogs and puppies recently rescued from a single property in Maryland.
They were found in cages too small to turn around in, breathing the sting of ammonia, and many starving or sick.
Rescuers even found newborn pups nursing next to their dead sibling.
For those dogs, help came just in time.
But for millions of others, suffering continues in silence.
That is why World Animal Day is not just a celebration but also a call to action.
Here are four ways you can make a lasting difference for animals today:
1. Adopt, Don’t Shop
When people buy from breeders or pet stores, they often unknowingly fuel the cycle of cruelty.
Many of those animals are born in conditions just like the ones in Maryland — filthy, cramped, and dangerous.
Choosing adoption gives a homeless dog or cat a chance at safety and love, while reducing demand for cruel breeding operations.
2. Choose Compassion on Your Plate
Every meal is an opportunity to show kindness.
Even one plant-based meal a day can spare animals from suffering while also protecting your health and the planet we share.
Small choices, repeated by many, make a massive difference.
3. Protect Animals’ Home
From forests cleared for meat production to plastic choking our oceans, human activity destroys the homes animals depend on.
You can reduce your impact by rethinking your daily habits.
Choose reusable items, reduce waste, and support eco-friendly practices that safeguard the places animals call home.
4. Help End the Stray Animal Crisis
The world’s 600 million stray dogs and 87 million stray cats give birth to over 1 billion homeless puppies and kittens every year.
Tragically, those who survive also reproduce, creating another generation of homeless strays and repeating the cycle of suffering, every year.
This is why our mission is to end the #1 cause of suffering and death for dogs and cats — overpopulation — by developing a permanent-lasting birth control cookie that will only need to be eaten one time, and it will in effect spay or neuter — without surgery.
With your help, we will end this suffering.
Thank you for helping and for caring.
