Callie’s hunger met kindness that evening

Callie was almost invisible when we first saw her.
Callie was almost invisible when we first saw her.

Callie sat in front of a closed chemical factory, partly hidden by tall grass as if she had chosen the only corner where she felt slightly protected.

Her ears were raised, and her eyes stayed fixed on every small movement around her.

Staying still had likely kept her safe more than once.

That evening, Team 600MillionDogs was checking the area to make sure no homeless dog had been overlooked.

A faint sound led us toward the grass, and when we looked closely, we saw her sitting low near the garbage, trying to remain unnoticed

Callie did not growl or run. She just watched, frozen between fear and hope.
Callie did not growl or run. She just watched, frozen between fear and hope.

We slowed our steps and softened our voices so she could see we meant no harm.

Food became the first bridge between us.

She looked at it, then at us, and after a long pause, she took a careful step forward, then another, until she was close enough to eat without darting away.

Callie allowed a gentle hand on her head, which told us she was ready for something different from the life she had been living.

We brought her to our shelter, where she received a full health check and her vaccinations.

Today, Callie is safe today because someone chose to care.

Over the next few days, Callie began to sit with more confidence.

She ate without hesitation and rested without having to stay alert every second.

Her time in front of that factory could have stretched on for months.

Instead, it became the turning point in her life.

Many other homeless dogs are still sitting in places like that right now, surviving quietly and giving birth to puppies who will grow up facing the same uncertainty.

The world's 600 million stray dogs and 87 million stray cats give birth to over 1 billion homeless puppies and kittens every year.

Many dogs like Callie are born on the streets and blamed for surviving them.
Many dogs like Callie are born on the streets and blamed for surviving them.

Tragically, those who survive also reproduce, creating another generation of homeless strays and repeating the cycle of suffering year after year.

This is why our mission is to end the #1 cause of suffering and death for dogs and cats — overpopulation — by developing a Cookie that will only need to be eaten one time, and it will, in effect, spay or neuter — without surgery.

With your help, we will end this suffering.

Please join us.

Thank you for caring and for helping animals.

Amazing and heartfelt canine true account of “Callie” and so many more others like her out there waiting for hope, care and compassion. 💕 🐕 💗 Please 🙏 also keep the stray dogs of India in the public eye as this group has been rescuing entire villages of stray dogs that have been nearly put to death. They have not been able to save them all. 😢 Donate and spread the word as often as able -
