Betsy was hiding in the trash… until kindness found her

My name is Betsy.
I hid in the piles of discarded items.
I curled up between old boxes, broken chairs, and torn bags no one wanted anymore.
That was where I made myself small, hoping no one would notice me.
I was so hungry, but fear kept me from moving.
Every sound made me shrink back further.
I thought hiding was the only way to stay alive.
But then something unexpected happened.
Instead of being chased away, gentle voices called to me.
At first, I hesitated.
My body shook as I leaned forward.
But the food smelled good, and the voices were calm.
Slowly, I stepped out of the shadows.
That was the first time in a long time that I felt kindness.
It was the first time I believed I no longer had to be invisible.
After that, I was taken to a veterinarian who examined my body, made sure I was healthy, and gave me the care I had been without for so long.
I was brought to my forever home, where I would never have to starve or hide again.
I no longer had to wonder if tomorrow would come.
Now, I have a bed, a full belly, and hands that reach out to comfort instead of harm.
I wish every dog could know this feeling.
Too many are still crouched in corners or under cars, trembling at every sound, waiting for help that may never come.
That is why I became a Pilot Pup, which means I am one of the rescued dogs who lead the way toward ending suffering for all the others still out there.
The world's 600 million stray dogs and 87 million stray cats give birth to over 1 billion homeless puppies and kittens every year.
Tragically, those who survive, also reproduce and give birth to another generation of homeless strays - thus repeating the cycle of suffering, every year.
This is why 600MillionDogs is developing a Cookie to break the cycle of suffering before it starts.
A Cookie that will safely spay or neuter a stray dog or cat, and they will only have to eat one cookie, one time!
With your help, we will end this suffering.
Please join us.
Thank you very much for helping, and for caring.
With gratitude,
Betsy
