Thanks very much for your interest in 600MillionDogs.org (600).
I'm a long-time volunteer at 600, and I'd like to answer “How can we, a small nonprofit, end the number 1 cause of suffering for dogs and cats?"
One of the answers: 600 is led by one of the most effective activists in history -- Alex Pacheco.
For example:
** He has voluntarily been arrested over 60 times in the line of duty helping animals. He has many, many enemies and he's received countless death threats -- starting with his first dozen death threats in 1979.
** He has risked his life for animals many times, and he's been shot at numerous times from Texas to Ohio -- but so far they've all missed.
** At 22 he cofounded the largest animal rights organization on earth -- PETA, where he worked full time without pay for the first 4 or 5 years and went on to serve as Chairman for 20 years.
** He volunteered to work on a campaign to ram and sink the world's number 1 whale-killing ship The Sierra, as a crew member on The Sea Shepherd ship, crossing the Atlantic Ocean to hunt down The Sierra.
** In the end, both The Sierra and The Sea Shepherd were sunk and he was voted Crew Member of The Year.
** At 23 he made history when he worked undercover as a volunteer researcher -- in an animal experimentation laboratory, exposing the cruel abuse of The Silver Spring Monkeys.
The case produced the historic first arrest, prosecution, and criminal conviction of any animal experimenter -- on charges of cruelty to animals. The millions of tax dollars, and the 15 years of federal tax money that funded the experiments, were terminated. The long-standing animal experimentation laboratory was permanently shut down. It had never been done before, and it has never been done since. The New Yorker described it as " ... the spark that touched off what we now think of as the American animal-rights movement."
** He has worked undercover in other life-threatening investigations, in places such as Waco, Texas, exposing and shutting down animal abuse operations, such as closing down the largest horse slaughter operation in the country -- where over 30,000 horses were being abused and slaughtered.
** He has been inducted into the U.S. Animal Rights Hall of Fame and has lobbied hundreds of members of Congress to save animals.
** Even his enemies at Harvard University have called him a national folk hero to the animal rights movement.
These are just some of the reasons why 600 will change the world. 600’s founder has done it before -- but Alex needs your help!
Ending the number 1 cause of suffering on earth for dogs and cats.
Ending the global pet overpopulation problem.
How?
By developing a cookie that will spay or neuter without surgery!
A permanent-lasting birth control cookie -- that will only need to be eaten one time, and it will, in effect, spay or neuter -- without surgery.
The great news is you can support Alex and help end massive suffering at the same time for as little as $1 a month!
Many thank-you's, in advance.
Sincerely,
Catherine Hill
