Alexia was waiting for someone who might never come…

Alexia was standing on a mound of sand at the far end of a narrow street — a place so easy to miss, we might have walked right past.
She was completely alone.
There was no food, no water, nothing to show that anyone had been looking after her.
There was only a quiet street and a dog who seemed to have been waiting far too long for someone to notice her.
Alexia had been digging in the sand, maybe to pass the time, or because there was nothing else to do.
When we approached, she stopped and stared, her eyes calm but tired.
It was not fear we saw — it was the look of a dog who had learned not to expect much.
When we got close, Alexia stopped and looked straight at us.
We held out a small treat.
She took it gently, and for the first time that day, she was not alone.
We brought her to safety, away from the empty street where she had been spending her days.
She finally had clean water to drink, a bowl of food, and a quiet place to rest.
It was clear she had been without comfort for far too long.
Over the next few days, Alexia’s spirit began to return.
Her tail wagged when she saw us, and the guarded look in her eyes slowly softened.
Alexia now lives in safety, cared for and loved.
But she is just one of many dogs still waiting for help.
The world's 600 million stray dogs and 87 million stray cats give birth to over 1 billion homeless puppies and kittens every year.
Tragically, those who survive, also reproduce and give birth to another generation of homeless strays - thus repeating the cycle of suffering, every year.
This is why we are developing a one-time, permanent-lasting, birth control Cookie that, when eaten, will spay or neuter a homeless dog or cat without surgery, to end the overpopulation crisis.
Thank you for caring about dogs like Alexia.
