A Petition to Permanently End the Dog and Cat Meat Trade in Indonesia

 

Dear President Widodo,

We are calling on you to work with lawmakers to pass a national ban on dog and cat meat in Indonesia. Dogs and cats are amazing, emotional, loving beings who suffer and feel pain just like us. They deserve to live their lives free from exploitation. 

 

We applaud the work you as a nation have done so far to get many markets to end the dog and cat meat trade, most notably the recent end of dog and cat meat at the extremely cruel Tomohon market. But more work needs to be done to end the brutality once and for all! 

 

By ending the dog and cat meat trade in Indonesia, you can help to protect against the spread of dangerous diseases and also signal to the world that Indonesia is a country of compassion. 

 

The vast majority of Indonesians do not consume dog or cat meat, and the international community wants you to reflect the changing attitudes towards animals by instating laws that protect them from needless suffering. 

 

We urge you to do everything in your power to end this cruelty once and for all.
