Today is International Cat Day, a time to celebrate cats while raising awareness of the challenges millions still face around the world.
Animal shelters and rescues across the U.S. took in approximately 3 million cats in 2025 alone.
Earlier this year in New York City, a 15-year-old cat named Thai survived nearly a week alone inside her apartment after her guardians unexpectedly passed away.
She was eventually found alive, bringing an anxious search to a hopeful end.
Stories like Thai's remind us that countless cats rely on people who are willing to step in when they need help the most.
Thai was fortunate.

Many cats are not as lucky.

3. Volunteer where cats need you most
Animal shelters often need help beyond caring for the animals.
Volunteers assist with cleaning, transportation, adoption events, photography, fundraising, and socializing cats.

4. Donate supplies or sponsor a cat's care
Food, litter, blankets, towels, carriers, and veterinary care all come at a cost.
