TikToker almost loses vision to cat ...

Updated: Aug 1

A woman temporarily lost her vision after being scratched in the eye by her cat. [1] She posted the video on TikTok, where it received over 6 million views. [2]

As you know, we need to pay attention to our companion animal's body language so that we know their limits. Maybe you already learned this the hard way!

What signs should we look for to understand how our cats are feeling?

The tell-tale tail: The tail acts almost like a mood barometer. When a cat is annoyed or on edge, you might notice their tail lashing or thumping, and in more intense situations, the tail puffs up in agitation.

Read those ears: A cat's ears are incredibly expressive, capable of nearly 180-degree rotation. Forward-facing ears indicate contentment or curiosity. However, when a cat is annoyed or feels threatened, their ears will flatten against their head, sometimes rotating sideways or backward.

The eyes are a window: Narrowed eyes might indicate aggression or fear, while wide, dilated pupils can signify excitement or even stress and annoyance. If your cat keeps prolonged eye contact or stares with dilated pupils, it's time to take a step back.

Check out that posture: An annoyed or scared cat might adopt a more defensive body posture. This could include an arched back, puffed-up fur (to appear bigger and more intimidating), or even a crouched position, ready to flee at a moment's notice.

A cat's body language can tell us humans so much about their experience, likes, dislikes, and complexities.

The tragic reality is that hundreds of millions of homeless cats have one dominant emotion: desperation. Most stray cats spend their lives just struggling to survive.

Stray cats won’t have the chance to play with toys or do zoomies around the house or find peace in a simple cardboard box. These behaviors are not just entertaining but also crucial for a cat's overall health and happiness, allowing them to express their natural curiosity, hunting instincts, and sheer joy.

That's why our mission is to end the number 1 cause of suffering and death for dogs and cats -- overpopulation -- by developing a permanent-lasting birth control cookie that will only need to be eaten one time, and it will in effect spay or neuter -- without surgery.
