She was locked inside — no one knew

I was trapped inside a sealed warehouse, alone in the summer heat.
I was trapped inside a sealed warehouse, alone in the summer heat.

My name is Cher.

Team 600 found me inside a grain warehouse after being trapped there for hours.

The space had no airflow, and the heat kept rising.

By the time they arrived, I could not stand.

They carried me out and gave me small amounts of water while waiting for my body to respond.

Once I was stable, they took me to a veterinarian, where I received treatment for heat stress.

That was the day kindness saved my life.

I am alive because kindness came in time.
I am alive because kindness came in time.

This week is Be Kind to Animals Week.

For animals like me, kindness decides what happens next.

Taking a homeless dog or cat off the street gives them safety they do not have.

Fostering gives an animal time to recover when they are too weak or scared to survive alone.

Adoption gives them a life where food, care, and protection are no longer uncertain.

Rescue steps in when an animal is already in danger and has no way out.

Each action changes the outcome for one life.

Many are still out there waiting for kindness.
Many are still out there waiting for kindness.

Rescue can save one animal at a time, but it cannot keep up with how many are being born into the same conditions.

There is one act of kindness that reaches further than any rescue — it stops suffering before it begins.

At 600MillionDogs, we are developing a one-time birth control Cookie that, once eaten, will spay or neuter a homeless dog or cat without surgery.

Around 600 million stray dogs and 87 million stray cats are living on the streets today.

Together, they give birth to more than 1 billion puppies and kittens every year.

Those who survive grow up and repeat the same cycle.

The numbers keep growing, and so does the suffering.

Most street dogs are born into a life where survival is never guaranteed.
Most street dogs are born into a life where survival is never guaranteed.

You can help reduce how many animals are born into those conditions, starting at just $5 a month.

Thank you for caring and for helping animals.

With gratitude,

Cher.
