After 19 years of pain, these animals now have a future

These innocent primates will never face testing again.
These innocent primates will never face testing again.

A major victory just happened, and it is worth celebrating.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is shutting down its painful experiments on primates.

The last two monkey-based studies will end this month.

For decades, primates suffered behind the doors of government laboratories.

Their spines were crushed and limbs were paralyzed.

Some were injected with drugs like angel dust and forced to run on treadmills while locked in restraints.

Now, at least for primates, it is over.

These animals are finally getting the peace they deserve.
These animals are finally getting the peace they deserve.

These studies will never be conducted again.

And no new monkey experiments will be allowed by the VA.

This is one of the strongest signs yet that the world is starting to wake up to the suffering animals endure in laboratories.

For years, the number of animals used in VA experiments has been dropping.

19 years ago, the VA used around 800 primates.

Now, it is down to seven.

They used over 700 dogs.

Now, it is nine.

And the number of cats is already down to zero.

Dog experiments are nearly phased out.
Dog experiments are nearly phased out.

This is what progress looks like.

But even as this door closes, others remain wide open.

For example: The National Institute of Health has sent more than $2.2 billion of taxpayer money to laboratories in other countries with little or no oversight.

Monkeys are still having their eyes deliberately damaged in painful experiments to study vision loss.

Rats are being shocked in the brain for months.

Dogs are being poisoned so badly that their organs fail in days.

NIH funds painful tests on rats abroad.

This cruelty is still happening, and the animals have no voice.

But YOU do.

Please help end this by pressuring congress to pass the Cease Animal Research Grants Overseas (CARGO) that would ban NIH from funding animal experiments overseas.

Thank you for helping us protect them.

With deep appreciation,
