4 Ways to Help Your Cat Live a Healthier Life: Happy Cat Month
September is Happy Cat Month, a month that encourages cat guardians to pay closer attention to their cats' health and well-being.
A recent survey of more than 60,000 U.S. households found that only about one in three cats receives annual veterinary care, compared to about seven in ten dogs.
Happy Cat Month is a good reminder to make sure your cat is getting the care they need.
Here are four ways to celebrate this month.
1. Don't Ignore Changes in Everyday Habits
Cats often hide signs of illness.
If your cat suddenly eats less, drinks more or less water than usual, stops grooming, or no longer jumps onto beds or furniture, schedule a veterinary visit.
Those changes can be early signs of a health problem.
2. Don't Skip the Annual Checkup
Many cats are only taken to the veterinarian after they become sick.
Annual checkups can help detect health problems before obvious symptoms appear.
Early treatment is often easier than treating advanced disease.
3. Give Your Cat More Than One Place to Eat, Drink, and Rest
Cats often prefer their food, water, and litter boxes to be in separate locations.
Giving them easy access to each resource can help them feel more comfortable in their home.
4. Rotate Your Cat's Toys
Instead of leaving every toy out all the time, put some away and bring them back a few days later.
Changing the toys regularly helps keep cats interested and encourages more play.
Good care helps companion cats live healthier lives.
Yet millions of cats are born without anyone to provide that care.
The world's 600 million stray dogs and 87 million stray cats give birth to over 1 billion homeless puppies and kittens every year.
Tragically, those who survive also reproduce, creating another generation of homeless strays and repeating the cycle of suffering year after year.
This is why our mission is to end the #1 cause of suffering and death for dogs and cats — overpopulation — by developing a Cookie that will only need to be eaten one time, and it will, in effect, spay or neuter — without surgery.
With your help, we will end this suffering!
