Today is National Cat Day — a day to honor not just the cats who capture hearts online, but also the quiet survivors who fight for life against impossible odds.

Like a tiny kitten named Miso, who was rescued just before she was nearly hit by a car.

She was hurt and needed surgery, but her rescuer refused to give up.

With care and love, Miso began to heal, and soon her playful spirit started to return.

Today, she is growing stronger, chasing toys, and learning what it means to feel safe.

While we celebrate every cat who makes it, this day is also a chance to protect the ones still waiting for help.

Here are four ways to celebrate National Cat Day while making a lasting difference for cats:

1. Support Neonatal Kitten Foster Programs



Thousands of kittens under eight weeks old die in shelters each year because they need round-the-clock care that most shelters cannot provide.

You can change that by supporting foster funds that supply bottles, incubators, and formula for fragile newborns.

Each tiny life saved today becomes a strong, healthy cat tomorrow.

2. Strengthen Trap-Neuter-Return and Medical Outreach

Outdoor cats often live with untreated injuries or infections.

Mobile Trap-Neuter-Return and care teams reach them where they are, bringing spay/neuter services, vaccines, and medical assistance directly to the field.

Although these programs cannot reach every cat, one visit can stop the birth of dozens of kittens and end suffering before it starts.

3. Equip Community Cat Caregivers

People who feed and protect outdoor cats often do it alone, using what little they have.

Providing them with food, shelters, carriers, and parasite treatment makes every day safer for those cats.

With the right tools, caregivers can protect entire colonies from hunger and disease.

4. Help End the Stray Animal Crisis

The world’s 600 million stray dogs and 87 million stray cats give birth to over 1 billion homeless puppies and kittens every year.

Tragically, those who survive also reproduce, creating another generation of homeless strays and repeating the cycle of suffering year after year.
