Britches

This is Britches. In 1985, experimenters at the University of California at Riverside sewed his eyes shut and strapped a bulky, noisy electronic device to his head. He was rescued by the Animal Liberation Front, along with 700 other animals.

The ALF took a video of the rescue and turned it over to Alex and PETA, who released the video publicly, raising public awareness of the suffering of laboratory animals.

As a result, the university banned experimenters from sewing baby monkeys’ eyes shut from then on. Britches was given a good home at a sanctuary, where he was adopted by an adult female monkey and received the love and care he deserved.
